The tailgate long has been a valuable piece of pickup truck bed, allowing users to safely store cargo during transport. A dropped tailgate can also act like a table or platform, and even provide rudimentary seating. This venerable piece of equipment hasn’t changed much in more than 100 years … until now.
The MultiPro tailgate on the new 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is a game-changer. Standard on the SLT and Denali trim levels, it’s available across the Sierra 1500 lineup. The MultiPro offers six unique positions to help with safely storing cargo and providing easy access to the bed. The MultiPro essentially offers a small tailgate inside a larger tailgate that provides easier pass-through loading, a small table for work and a short backstop for loads.
The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 will be the first pickup (unless you count the Honda Ridgeline’s dual-action tailgate) to offer a completely unique tailgate, but we expect it to make it to the Chevrolet lineup relatively soon.
